GHK-Cu (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine copper complex) is a naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide found in human blood plasma, saliva, and urine. It was first isolated from human plasma albumin by Dr. Loren Pickart in 1973. Plasma concentrations of GHK-Cu are approximately 200 ng/mL at age 20 and decline by roughly 60% by age 60. This age-related decline has made it a significant focus of longevity and skin aging research.

GHK-Cu research spans several areas. Published studies have investigated its effects on collagen synthesis, wound healing, skin remodeling, hair follicle health, and gene expression. A widely cited 2014 study in BioMed Research International found that GHK-Cu can influence the expression of over 4,000 human genes, with a pattern that researchers described as consistent with a "younger" gene expression profile. Preclinical research has also explored its antioxidant properties and its role in copper delivery to tissues.

The blue color is normal and expected. It comes from the copper ion (Cu2+) bound to the GHK peptide. Copper compounds naturally exhibit a blue or blue-green color in aqueous solution. If your reconstituted GHK-Cu is not slightly blue, that may indicate the copper is not properly chelated, which would be a quality concern. A light blue tint is a sign of a properly formulated product.

Use bacteriostatic water only. Do not use sodium chloride (saline) for GHK-Cu reconstitution. The chloride ions in saline can interfere with the copper chelation bond, potentially destabilizing the peptide complex. Bacteriostatic water (with 0.9% benzyl alcohol preservative) is the correct choice for reconstituting and preserving multi-dose vials.

Store lyophilized GHK-Cu at -20C for maximum shelf life (2+ years). After reconstitution, refrigerate at 2-8C and use within 30 days. Protect from direct light, as copper peptides can be photosensitive. Never freeze the reconstituted solution.

Topical GHK-Cu formulations have been studied primarily for skin-specific effects (wrinkle reduction, skin firmness, wound healing). Injectable GHK-Cu research has focused on systemic effects including gene expression modulation, organ tissue remodeling, and broader anti-aging pathways. The route of administration determines which tissues are primarily affected. Most in vitro research uses the injectable (lyophilized) form for cell culture applications.

Every batch undergoes third-party HPLC and mass spectrometry testing. HPLC confirms purity (99%+ standard). Mass spectrometry confirms molecular identity. A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis is provided with every purchase and available for download directly on this page.

All Kern products ship same-day (orders placed before 1pm EST). Lyophilized peptides are shipped at ambient temperature and are stable during transit. Upon receipt, store at -20C for long-term stability or 2-8C for near-term use. If the product arrives damaged, contact us within 7 days with photos for a free replacement.

Price differences usually reflect differences in purity, testing standards, and manufacturing quality. Low-cost vendors may skip mass spectrometry verification (which confirms you actually have the right molecule), use lower-grade raw materials, or skip sterility and endotoxin testing. Kern tests every batch with both HPLC and mass spec, and our CoAs are available before you buy.
